Clean water:
Clean water is something most people don’t think much about, but without it good health is not possible. In 2019, David and Sally Ball, personally gave money to an orphanage in Masaka, Uganda install a water collection system to capture the rain water and store it in three 10,000 liter storage tanks. Unfortunately, if it does not rain frequently, the water supply runs out due to the large water demands. When the water runs out, they had to walk down the mountain to get water from the river, or pay to have water brought up the mountain. Government water is available but no water lines have been installed going up the mountain. In Uganda, it is the responsibility of the customer to dig trenches and install underground water pipes in rural areas.
Also in 2019, through a generous personal donation from Andrew and Christina Delatorre, a lot was purchased at the bottom of the mountain, a well has been dug, and underground water lines have been installed to bring the spring water up the mountain to the orphanage. The well water is being used to refill the water storage tanks when it does not rain enough to keep them filled.
Nutritional Needs:
Goat Project:
Good nutrition is an important key factor in good health. This is true at any age but is often irreversible if an infant or small child is deprived good nutrition. In 2022, the Medical Misson team encountered several malnourished babies. One baby was being raised by the elderly grandmother. The mother had passed away in childbirth. As a result, the only food available to feed the baby was porridge, which has very little nutritional value. The baby was six months old but looked like two months old. To address this nutritional need in infants, Lazarus Momentum has purchased a certain breed of goats that produce a high volume of milk. Goat’s milk is the most similar to human breast milk and is a better substitute for breast milk than cow’s milk. Many children cannot tolerate cow’s milk due to digestion issues and allergies.
In July and September, 2022 we purchased a total of three male and ten female goats with the intent to mate them to increase the number available to be milked.
As the herd grew, it became necessary to build a facility to house them. In September 2023 we began building a goat pin.
The long term goal is to give the village leaders one male and two female goats to donate one male and two female goats to select remote villages. Bumogolo village has their first pregnant female goat.
Lazarus Momentum, Inc. is funded by contributions from the participants of the “Medical Outreach Missions”, and from generous contributions from friends, family, and the general public. 100% of all funds donated to Lazarus Momentum are used for the benefit of our outreach program recipients and not to pay founders salaries or their trip expenses. All Medical Mission participants pay their own way or raise their own funds. Money donated for a specific purpose will be used for that purpose.
The most immediate and pressing need in Uganda is for clean water for drinking, bathing, and washing clothes.
