Passport
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel date, with at least one blank passport page.
Uganda Visa
Apply online before boarding. Timing is roughly four weeks before departure. Contact David Ball for the special visa form instructions.
Immunizations
See the required immunizations page and consult your physician or a travel clinic.
Water Filter Bottle
A water filter bottle is a must for the entire trip.
Mosquito Repellent
Bring DEET-based mosquito repellent. Treat clothing with permethrin before you go.
Power Converter & Adapters
Uganda electricity is 220v / 50hz; U.S. is 110v / 60hz. Bring a true power converter — not only a plug adapter. Do not attempt to run hair dryers or curling irons.
Clothing
Modest, lightweight clothing — no tight pants, spaghetti straps, low-cut tops, short skirts, short dresses, or shorts. Closed-in shoes, Crocs, backup shoes, riding boots, and flip-flops for showering.
Cash & Currency
Bring sufficient cash in American dollars and Ugandan shillings — remote areas may not accept credit cards. Brand-new $100 bills are preferred. Banks may reject marked, torn, discolored, or older bills.
Credit & Debit Cards
Notify your bank of international travel. Have backup cards. Not accepted in remote areas.
Cell Phone & WhatsApp
Enable international cell service and install WhatsApp before you go — it's the primary communication tool with the team on the ground.
Luggage & Baggage Weight
Photograph your suitcases before travel. Check your airline's baggage weight limits carefully.
Travel Insurance & Emergency Contacts
Purchase travel insurance and share emergency contact information with the trip leader.
Passport Holder / RFID Wallet, Prescription Medication, Rain Gear, Towels & Hygiene Items, Travel Documents & Copies
Bring an RFID passport holder, a full supply of prescription medication in original packaging, lightweight rain gear, quick-dry travel towels and hygiene items, and printed copies of all travel documents in a separate bag from the originals.
